The Territorial Police in Rwenzori East Region have urged residents to turn up in large numbers and peacefully participate in the Local Council I (LC1) and Executive Committee elections scheduled for Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
According to the Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Elly Maate, police and other security agencies have intensified security measures across the region to ensure a peaceful electoral process and protect voters, candidates and election officials.
Police said security personnel have remained on high alert since the start of the electoral programme and are prepared to respond to any incidents that may disrupt public order.
Addressing the media, Maate urged all stakeholders, including candidates, supporters and members of the public, to conduct themselves within the law and cooperate with security personnel throughout the exercise.
“The Territorial Police in Rwenzori East Region are calling on members of the public to come out in big numbers on 28th July 2026 and exercise their civil rights by electing leaders of their choice without any disruption,” Maate said.
Police also reminded the public that maintaining security is a shared responsibility, encouraging citizens to remain vigilant before, during and after the elections.
“Acts of hooliganism, misconduct and violence or any other act of malpractice must be avoided because they will not be tolerated,” he added.
The security agencies further advised voters to follow all safety guidelines, remain law-abiding and promptly report suspicious activities or incidents to security personnel or local leaders.
Maate reiterated the commitment of police and other security agencies to safeguarding lives and property throughout the election period while ensuring the LC1 electoral exercise is conducted peacefully.
